Wisdom About Debt Stewardship

Wisdom About Debt Stewardship

In my previous post, we have learned some of the benefits of being a good steward and the consequences of poor stewardship as it relates to debt. As we discovered in the Parable of the Talents, poor financial stewardship is often driven by fear, slothfulness, or a lack of understanding. An effective way to overcome these hindrances is to seek God’s Wisdom about debt stewardship.

“Happy, blessed, fortunate, enviable is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding, drawing it forth from God’s Word and life’s experiences” (Proverbs 3:13 AMPC)

“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7 NIV)

These scriptures contain the keys to happiness: wisdom and understanding. Understanding is the process of learning about specific topics, becoming aware of their attributes, and gaining insights into how they work. Wisdom provides management (stewardship) strategies and methods to achieve the goals associated with the subject matter.

Seeking Wisdom About Debt Stewardship

When gaining wisdom about debt stewardship, we need only look to the bible and Father God. Overcoming fear, slothfulness, and a lack of understanding can be achieved by seeking the Lord for wisdom. When we do, we automatically become better stewards as we diligently follow His instructions.

“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise Him forever!” (Psalm 111:10 NLT)

The word “fear” in Psalm 111:10 is translated as having reverential trust in God, not being afraid of Him. Having a strong belief that if God promised it, He will do what He said.

Prayer for Wisdom

In James 1:5-6, we learn a secret to receiving wisdom from God.

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” (NLT)

Let’s ask the Lord for wisdom, understanding, and guidance. Let’s pray aloud to our Father God.

Heavenly Father,

I praise and honor Your name. O Lord, You are great and Your mercies endure forever. You said in Your Word that if I lack wisdom, I can ask You for it. Father, I ask You now for wisdom and understanding on how to become a better steward over my finances and my life as a whole. I repent for, and ask Your forgiveness for my poor stewardship behaviors.

I bind the spirits of fear, slothfulness, lack of understanding, poverty and any other spirit that is hindering my progress. I command that they all leave me now in the Name of Jesus!

Lord, thank you for hearing my cry and attending to my prayer.  Show me Your plans and strategies for financial freedom and give me strength to follow-through on Your instructions. By faith, I believe I have received the answers now. This prayer I submit to You in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

As you prayed, the Lord has certainly poured out His wisdom upon you and has opened channels for increased understanding.
