Telling our minds what to think is a vital step in achieving goals. We can overcome old habits that control our behaviors by planting seeds of thought. By planting seeds of thought, we can expect a harvest of like-kind crops that result from the operation of several spiritual laws. Those laws include, but not limited to:
Tell Your Mind What to Think
For this demonstration, we’ll use as an example a desire to get out of debt. Everything in life starts with a foundation of thinking; "...as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." Rather than thinking intensely on a debt problem, instead, focus on the debt solution. We should not ignore our debts, but worrying and thinking about debts continually tends to attract more debt to ourselves. It’s better to practice focusing on debt freedom instead. Below are steps that describe one way of telling your mind what to think.
Step 1: Make Up Your Mind What You Desire
Determine exactly what you want and be very specific about it. Decide on its attributes such as color, size, location, amount, etc. (Proverbs 23:7 – The Law of Thinking)
Step 2: Determine What You Will Give In Exchange For Your Desires
Nothing in life that is truly worth having is free. Ask yourself these questions. What do you have of value to give? Is it time, money, knowledge, or deeds? How much are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your desires. One way you can give when it comes to debt freedom is to help others who are in debt. Start by giving of your time to share the debt freedom knowledge and strategies that are working for you. (Galatians 6:7 - The Law of Sowing and Reaping)
Step 3: Develop a S.M.A.R.T. Goal for Debt Freedom
S.M.A.R.T. goal statements contain Specific details about the planned accomplishments. They also consist of Measurable attributes that function as signals of success or failure. Ensure also that your goals are Achievable, Realistic, and set a Time for completion.
Sample Goal Statement:
By December 31, 20xx (add a specific date), I will be completely free from $xxxx (add a specific amount) of debt. (Habakkuk 2:2 – The Law of Written Vision)
Step 4: Plan the Steps Required to Achieve the Debt Freedom Goal
To accomplish this goal, I’ll implement the debt snowball strategy to pay my bills. I will also modify my spending patterns, and use the budget savings to generate cash for emergencies, provide extra principal payments on debts and pre-pay for a vacation. Daily I will plant thought seeds in my mind and expect of a great harvest. (Matthew 25:29 – The Law of Stewardship)
Step 5: Write a “Tell Your Mind What to Think” Statement
Write a concise statement that gives praise to God, Include the desires of your heart, a specific date, and what you are willing to give in exchange. Also, find a scripture that contains a promise for what you desire and Include the Word as part of your written statement. (Proverbs 18:21 – The Law of Confession)
Sample Statement:
God, you are the source of all my supply. I am so grateful that I am now debt-free. I see myself before December 31, 20xx, writing ‘paid in full’ on the last debt I owe. I became debt-free by implementing the debt snowball strategy, modifying my spending patterns and helping others to achieve their dreams of debt freedom.
2 Corinthians 9:10-11 New Living Translation (NLT)
10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.
11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
Step 6: Plant ‘Thought Seeds’ s Twice Daily
Use your imagination to visualize yourself doing what you would be doing if you were, in fact, debt-free at this very moment. Read aloud your “Tell Your Mind What to Think” statement twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. By doing so, you are actively building faith and planting thought seeds in your mind that will eventually yield the physical equivalent of a like-kind harvest. (Joshua 1:8 – The Law of Meditation)
Step 7: Implement Your SMART Goal Plan
Diligently follow-through on the steps of your SMART goal plans. Closely monitor your progress, and as needed, adjust tasks to ensure you stay on track. Neglecting this step can cause goal failure. Faith without works is dead. (James 2:20 – The Law of Faith)
When telling your mind what to think, do not limit your planting to just seeds for finances. Like farmers, you decide the type of harvest you want. Select the type seed that best matches your expectations and follow the steps above to achieve the desires of your heart.
Each of the spiritual laws mentioned in this blog includes an element that ties to The Law of Attraction. The body truly achieves what the mind believes.
