Overcoming Obstacles
Educator Booker T. Washington said, “success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.”
As much as we want life to be easy and hassle-free, obstacles come regularly. We face challenges in school, relationships, and businesses. These hindrances force us to stop and ask ourselves, “what do I do now?” or “what’s my next move?”
Triumph Over Obstacles
I have a relative who recently joined the United States Navy. Her recruitment training was supposed to last eight weeks. After the first two weeks, there was a problem with her paperwork which pushed back the graduation date. She got that corrected, and then three weeks later, she didn’t pass the running portion of her training – graduation was delayed again. She continued with the recruitment training but then had a health issue – the graduation date delayed for the third time. After being transferred to multiple divisions and ships, my niece graduated from recruitment training after 18 weeks. She is now a sailor in the United States Navy.
In my opinion, military training is the most demanding training anyone can do. The training prepares recruits to handle any hurdles that come their way. This young woman showed resilience, determination and defeated those obstacles. She knew to pray to God and ask for strength while in her training and that He was with her. In the Bible, Jesus said in John 16:33 (NLT), “…Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart because I have overcome the world.” God has overcome the world so that we may persevere and conquer obstacles through Him. I believe that trusting God and perseverance are keys to our success despite any obstacles.
